Extra - Argo - Poster Analysis

Although the movie 'Argo' is more of an action movie the poster caught my eye and had colours that I was thinking of using in my horror movie poster. But after some feedback from teachers and target audience members I decided to let it be an inspiration rather than an example to follow or imitate.

It was in a newspaper that I spotted this move poster- as 'The Master's poster it contains a lot of reviews and stars from various magazines. This is due to the poster being placed in a newspaper so people will be drawn to it. Here is an example of some of the reviews. The actors names are not overly sized as in some movie posters- this is due to horror movies not containing extremely famous actors- as the less 'famous' the characters are the more believable the movie is.

The close up of the main actors face is included in this poster and he has a look of fear in his eyes. He is not looking directly at the camera but to the side suggesting that he has seen something suspicious. The background- unlike 'The Master's movie poster is busy and includes an establishing shot of a harbour and some buildings. This seems similar to something you would see in a James Bond movie- which does involve suspense but is not always as frightening as a horror movie- which suggests that this movie is more of a thriller than a horror movie.

Lower down on the poster you can see people who appear to be running probably as a result of a traumatic event- the white car and debris makes it look like the car was involved.

The strap reads 'based on the declassified true story' - which reinforces the idea of it involving  spys. Also there is a reminder of 'from the director of the town' - so fans of 'the town' will be drawn and attracked to this movie and likely to watch it.

The colours used were dull yet effective, I would like to have a dramatic effect by using more simple colours. I certainly aim to replicate the draw or attraction that this poster has as it caught my eye immediately and made me interested in what it was.
