Poster analysis 1 - Mirrors

The most striking part of this poster is the actress' eyes wide open, in desperation. The majority of the poster consists of a dark or black background, suggesting that evil is hiding near by or approaching the girl.  Below the girls eyes are smudges of black, which can be seen as tears or as if the black or evilness is exiting her through her eyes. Like many horror movies the poster does not show the entire face of the character on in the poster. The fact that we cannot see her entire face means that we do not know everything about her. Usually only one or two features are kept hidden or half of the face, but in this case the actress' nose and mouth blend into the blackness. Suggesting that the darkness or evil is overtaking her personality and the look in her eyes supports this idea. Her eyes are open wide as if she is in emense pain or witnessed something terrifying. When the audiences eye reaches the name of the movie 'Mirrors' they can link the wide eyes to seeing a reflection in a mirror or the reflection of the actress. She may be so shocked as to what her appearance has become or of her personality changing and she finally sees her true self- and is frightened by it.

The name of the movie is coloured in red, which is common amongst many horror movies as it represents blood, pain and anger- emotions that are found in almost every horror movie. The creator of the poster has cleverly rotated the letter 'R' so that it looks like it is a reflection of the 'R' before it- which makes the name of the movie stay in the possible audiences mind for longer.

The poster includes so little but is so effective in scaring and making the audience wonder what is going to happen to this character.
